This I would like to see on the Atari 8 bit computer:

  1. A SIO network that will let me move files from one Atari to the next, so that I can compare files, have one computer unarc something while I do something else at another computer (computer means Atari 8 bit, unless specified otherwise). Maybe the GameLink II/Multilink interface is a start. Or the USB cartridge (mentioned below) with USB-Bluetooth adaptors. On the ST, the MIDI interface is often used to network computers together.
  2. More software for the MultiLink interface. (Up to 8 computers playing the same game).
You will find existing software, ideas for new software and details on the hardware to use by going to the MultiLink section on my 'special stuff' page.
If you don't wanna build one of these yourself, try these guys. Click on Network Interface. The interface in the picture only has one connector (apart from the SIO connector), they usually come with two connectors. Make sure you tell them which version you want.
  3. More software for the MultiJoy interface. (Up to 8 or 16 joysticks connected to one computer, even XL/XE).
You will find existing software, ideas for new software and details on the hardware to use by going to the MultiJoy section on my 'special stuff' page.
If you wanna know what a MultiJoy interface looks like click here. I should warn you, the text is on a different site in an Eastern European language and Radek uses wires instead of a printed circuit board. If you look real hard, you might find the english page Radek has on that site. But here's the direct link.
If you don't wanna build one yourself, one of the guys who build the Network/MultiLink Interface is taking orders on this one too.
  4. An upgrade to BBXFER: It's virtually impossible to make a copy of a PC disk directly to another PC disk. A PC with two 3.5" mechs is hard to find and BBXFER can't copy data from one PC disk to another PC disk either. But this feature would come in handy while cleaning up my PC disks.
  5. BBXFER only reads from and writes to one of the FATs on a PC disk. BBXFER should compare both FATs and if it finds that they are not equal, give one the option to select which one to use (and maybe overwrite the other one with).
  6. The BlackBox has three settings: XF, Perc and Atr (for XF551, Percom and ATR8000/8500 respectively). Who knows how to add a PC setting, so that we can use the TaskMaster on PC disks?
  7. A roller coaster demo.
  8. Fax software. It's been done for the C64!
  9. A parallel bus interface (PBI) upgrade for the XEGS.
  10. A utility to either play those low resolution movies that use Windows media player on the PC on the 8 bit Atari directly or convert them to a format that will play on the Atari. Maybe using the HIP or RIP graphics format.
Nicholas Coplin is working on a utility that will convert AVI movies to Commodore 64 format.
Check out Mr-Atari's site for some movies that run on his MyIDE interface. After that, rewrite the viewer to BlackBox or ASPI compatibility. :-)
  11. A utility to auto detect the settings needed for David Deaven's Infra-Red Gateway for the Atari 8 bit. The InfraRed gateway can read and transmit IR signals from remote controles like the ones that are commonly used on televisionset, stereo's, etc.
  12. A 16 bit version of the PC-Bridge. That can also handle PCMCIA.
  13. A USB interface. Either SIO, in a cartridge or fully PBI compatible.
ABBUC members can order their USB cartridge here.
Everybody else can order theirs here.
    For more info, go here.
  14. An upgrade to make the BlackBox willing to share the system bus.
  15. An upgrade to make the BlackBox willing to share the scsi bus.
  16. An 80 columns color interface. Either fully PBI compatible, as a smart (pass thrue) cartridge, a VideoBoard that connects to the BlackBox like the FloppyBoard or an upgrade to the XEP80. The datasheets to the NS405 (the main chip inside the XEP80) show logical schematics for how color and 64kB can be added. They even mention bank switching memory.
  17. An ASPI manager for each hard disk interface that can handle 16 bit data.
  18. More ASPI software. Like for instance a harddrive/CD-ROM navigator.
  19. A utility that will enable us to switch between partition lists (see Atari 8 bit boot CD/DVD page for information on how partition list data is stored on a CD/DVD using AtariCD). On the same or different hard/ZIP/CD/DVD drives.
  20. A disassembly of the BlackBox ROM.
  21. An I²C interface.
  22. A way to hook the Yamaha video chips, as used in MSX computers, to the parallel bus. (Y9953, Y9958, Y9990)
    See my Special Stuff Page.
  23. The schematics to ComputerEyes, Parrot and Parrot II and the Covox hardware including the VoiceMaster Junior and the Atari 8 bit version of the Speech Thing. When I say Covox I mean the American company, not the Eastern European upgrade.
  24. Software versions for ComputerEyes that support the HIP and RIP graphics formats.
  25. A sound engine. A routine everybody can use to use digital speech/sound in their software.
  26. A SIO2PCMCIA interface. It should have (if PCMCIA supports it) atleast 2 PCMCIA slots. PCMCIA cards don't need a separate power supply.
  27. A routine that lets a computer auto detect if separate ANTIC and CPU access to a RAMdisk is possible.
  28. An updated version of DISKCOMM that can handle 16MB. The source to DISKCOMM is available at the CSS site.
  29. An upgrade that will make the 1050 and XF551 create less heat, without having to resort to the use of a switching power supply. We should still be able to use the old Atari power supply in conjunction with this upgrade.
  30. A way to increase the speed at which the FloppyBoard reads from and writes to PC disks.
  31. A utility that tells me which files are in a *.DCM or *.DC3 file.
  32. An upgrade that will let me play MP3 files on my Atari. There are at least 2 cartridges in the works for the C64 that can do this.
  33. In Europe the SCART/Peritel/Euro-AV connector is used, among other things, to let VCRs (video recorders) and TV's talk to each other. This is done via I²C via lines 10, 12 and 14. Wouldn't it be great if we could simulate a TV or video recorder so that we can use our trusted Atari's to (re)programm either?
  34. An HTML-viewer for 80 column devices like the XEP80.
  35. A TERRA demo. Terra as in Terrably big and Terra as in Mega, Giga, Terra. This demo would be larger then will fit on a floppy disk. That means 16MB would be the limit for now. This demo would run from SIO2IDE, BlackBox, MyIDE, etc.
  36. A memory expansion board for the BlackBox using 30 pin SIMMs or SRAM.

Green text means that a product as described in the text has been realised.
Olive text means somebody is working on something simular to what is being described.
